Apple Crisp

 

Ladies… if you follow me on Instagram you know I’ve been absolutely obsessed with apples lately. Like, OBSESSED. There’s just something so fresh, yet comforting and cozy about a warm, cinnamon-y apple. The best part, my apple crisp not only nourishes the body but also feeds the soul, evoking cherished memories of love and warmth.

There’s something magical about the aroma of warm apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar filling the air. It’s a fragrance that instantly transports me back to my grandma’s house, where the kitchen was the heart of the home. I’m just so excited to share this healthy apple crisp recipe that not only nourishes the body but also feeds the soul, evoking cherished memories of love and warmth.

As the sweet aroma of this healthy apple crisp wafts through your kitchen, you’ll find yourself reminiscing about the love, warmth, and delicious treats that filled your grandma’s house too. This recipe not only brings back cherished memories but also embraces a macro-minded approach, making it a perfect combination of nostalgia and well-being. So, gather your ingredients, preheat the oven, and create a little magic in your kitchen. Your taste buds and your soul will thank you.

 

Ingredients:

In a bowl, toss together:

  • 22 ounces sliced green apples 🍏 (approximately 5 medium apples, skin on unless you prefer to remove the skin)
  • 40 grams brown sugar alternative
  • Stevia to taste (*optional)
  • 2 grams sea salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon 
  • *1/4 cup water (add to after apples and crumble topping are assembled.)

For the crumble topping, combine all topping ingredients in a bowl, using a fork or your fingers to combine and crumble it up well.  

Crumble topping: 

  • 40 grams oat flour
  • 25 grams quick oats
  • 30 grams Pumpkin Spice spread
  • 50 grams brown sugar Swerve (or coconut sugar if you prefer, but macros will vary if you use coconut sugar)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 TB unsweetened cashew milk 

To Assemble:

Toss your apple ingredients and place in an 8×8 baking dish.  Top evenly with your crumble topping.  Pour the water evenly over the top. Bake at 350, 45-47 minutes.  Let cool.  Slice into 6 servings. Top with whipped cream or for added protein and apple pie a la mode vibes and scoop or two of my Lightened Up Vanilla Creami recipe for only an additional 62 calories for half a pint.
