NEW YEAR, STRONGER ME By Angela Funk Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Some people say that after the New Year, they become new (hence the phrase “New Year, New Me”), but I truly think I am not becoming “new”, rather, I am building a stronger ME every year.

A lot of reflection and gratitude can go a long way. As I sit down to reflect on my goals for 2020, I think about what goals will work for me; what do I need to accomplish—because goals are different for everyone. I am here to motivate you to think about what you want to accomplish, both short-term (6 months) and long-term (1 year). Because I think it is always important to reflect on our lives now, and find what may be missing, or something that needs improvement, OR just a general new goal that might be in mind. Small changes can create long-term affects! It is inevitable that majority of the population wants quick fixes FAST (we can all be guilty of this). And I am here to tell you that quick fixes do not work. The things you do habitually over time are what create permanent changes. My 2020 goals are not much to do with just exercise or nutrition, but with other aspects of my life. And I think it is important to reflect on both the physical and mental stages of your 2020 goals.

I want to let you in on MY 2020 goals!

  • LEARN TO SAY NO IF I AM FEELING OVERWHELMED OR JUST WANT ALONE TIME
  • STOP COMPARING MYSELF TO OTHERS
  • FIND MY TRUE PASSION IN MY CAREER
  • MAKE A COOKBOOK
  • ASK FOR HELP IF NEEDED… IT IS OK!
  • FOCUS ON GOOD CONTENT AND CONTINUE TO BE REAL ON MY INSTAGRAM BLOG
  • CONTINUE TO BE PRESENT IN EVERYDAY LIFE (BACK AWAY FROM THE CELLPHONE)
  • CONTINUE TO EXERCISE EVERYDAY BECAUSE I LOVE IT, NOT BECAUSE I THINK I NEED IT; TAKE REST DAYS WHEN NEEDED
  • FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE IN MY LIFE WHO PUT TIME INTO LOVING AND SUPPORTING ME; DISTANCE FROM THOSE WHO BRING NEGATIVE ENERGY
  • CONTINUE TO MAKE TIME TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO MEAN THE MOST TO ME

I hope you can sit back and reflect on your goals for the New Year. I think this is so important to evaluate where you are and where you might want to be. Even if you are content where you are, there is always room for growth, both physically and mentally.
